First page of a new venture.
Trying some things out. Namely, doing multiple layers in full black, using shapes instead of lines, and carving out things I want to be a specific color. So I end up just coloring my inklines and shapes, rather than laying down flats the traditional way.
It’s an interesting method. We’ll see if I can make it good and efficient.

I dunno why I keep writing stories about Rocket telling people how he touches himself. Is that weird.
Alls I knows is, I’m loving the last three panels to this.

New Epiphany page up on http://ianjay.net! This sucker went through some serious birthing pains— cathedral pages are a pain, which is why I’ve sort of been avoiding them for ages— but it ended up looking a LOT better than I expected. I think it might be one of my favorite single pages in the comic now! Go take a look.
jebus that interior
you know what i think i’m right there with you, this is an awesome page!
The big UK Kapow Comic show is being held this weekend. The show has been called out for the paucity of female creators and is pretty much a sausage fest (or is bangers fest because it is the UK?).
Joe Quesada of Marvel was there, however, and Ain’t it Cool News was as well. And here’s…
I’m not a big Marvel reader, so I couldn’t say for certain who would exactly lead in a role, character-wise. I mean, there’s Captain Marvel/Ms. Marvel Carol Danvers, there’s She-Hulk (I’d love to see this, actually), Black Widow has proven herself capable in Avengers (without falling into too many trappings of the typical comic female team member) — you could probably also carry a movie with just one of the X-Men, with Storm being my personal vote, though X-23 could make for a good brooding action film. Elektra could do with another chance, too.
As for people who could play these roles, what about Michelle Rodriguez? She’s badass, she’s constantly in more actiony roles, and refuses to be put into a “princess” role — her statement, not mine. Then there’s Zoe Saldana, who was already in a movie with a comic imprint (The Losers, from Vertigo) and in Colombiana (where she was positioned in the lead in an action movie). Gina Carano has already shown that not only can women lead in roles, they can do most of their own stunts — and can be professional athletes outside of Hollywood. Chloe Grace Moretz has already played a super-hero, Hit Girl, from Kick-Ass (a Marvel imprint, no less!). Saoirse Ronan, from Hannah, Jennifer Lawrence from Hunger Games AND From X-Men: First Class…
It’s silly to think that there are no big-name women who could play these roles. They’re already playing them. And sometimes, they’re even doing comic movies.
That really makes me wonder. I mean, yeah, I had to think about it at first, like, which female actors have already been proving themselves in action roles that Marvel would be creating? Not even going into the argument of, “the actors are out there, you just need to create the role and see who shows up at the audition,” because that’s not what Quesada’s point was. His point was there were no characters or actresses out there RIGHT NOW who could pull their own weight. Which is ridiculous.
Fuck, Hellen Mirren was in RED.
I don’t know who all else he wants.

Page 13 of ROAD TO HELL, my ECCC con report. We’re almost done with this thing!
to be fair, I guess when you’re a cop and you have murders and drugs and whatever to worry about, “strange kids taking pictures at conventions” ranks pretty low on the priority list
i’ve been following these for a while, and this cliffhanger is already friggin’ killing me, must have next installment

I really should post WIPs more.
Messing around in Manga Studio again. Haven’t used it in about half a year for some stupid reason! Will likely delete this post later.

Namco Bandai is going through its archives to bring back older intellectual properties, but not in the usual way. Rather, these games will be reimagined as free webcomics on ShiftyLook, which executive VP and representative director Shin Unozawa is calling “a platform where we can quickly test new ideas and get the community’s reaction in order to help drive product development.”
Oohhhhhh
Holy damn, Namco. What a great idea.
Take my money.
Fffffffuck there is no way I can NOT support this, it’s so awesome!

A test page for something I’m toying around with while working on Rustkin. Was in need of something simple and easy. Read a lot of full-page newspaper comics and Moebius, and this is sort of the result. No clue what’ll come of it, but hey! It gets me making comics, so that can’t be too bad.
It’s weird, at 600 dpi, this is sort of the limit of what I can do in SAI, my primary art program on my laptop, before everything starts failing and I get serious memory issues. Gonna try 300 if SAI’s gonna be this much of a dick.
this is what i was talking about last night
